Summer sewing

It's hard to stay focused on sewing when summer is here. {We live in Ohio, where it's really just late spring. But, don't ruin it for me, it's summer dang it!}I did manage to get some sewing in the other day, and here's what I have to show for it.

This skirt. I love it, but it's a huge sewing fail. Good thing she runs so you can't see all the flaws. It was supposed to be this dress, but I totally messed up the last ruffle that was gathered and sewn in the wrong spot, and I had absolutely no desire to seam rip. Therefore we have a flowing prairie skirt, that is wonky and uneven at the top. Oh well, she doesn't mind one bit!

This dress was of my own design, but something along the same lines as the same tutorial from above, but no ruffles to mess up.

Bicycle and dirt approved!

Sewing // A new wallet, and a Wiksten tank

I needed a new wallet, and stumbled upon this post a while back. In an effort to be conscience of my spending habits, I thought it would be wise to give Dave Ramsey's way a try. Being the fabric hoarder I am, I whipped this one up today using quilting scraps and a canvas dropcloth (handy to have around, I found mine at the hardware store, for around $6 for a huge size.)

Also hot off the sewing machine is my very first Wiksten tank. I'm kind of in love. (Sorry for the not so awesome photo, it's wrinkled from wearing it all day)
I'm looking forward to sewing a couple more this summer. I practiced my narrow hem on, which is not so hot, but in the process of getting better. I have a special foot on my fancy machine that creates a narrow hem, even after reading the manual, I'm pretty sure I'm still doing it wrong.

kcwc {day three} Toddler unders

Toddler panties

Soon we will be potty learning, which means we will need undies, so here are some undies. These didn't take more than 20 minutes from start to finish, so I didn't sew for a full hour yesterday, but I was out having fun running and jumping and playing with a toddler which was more fun. So, here is a mommy designed pair of unders, a pattern drafted by me, sewn by me, and soon to be peed in. They are the same fabric from day one. I'm blogging them a day late also, oops.

There are so many cute ideas for kcwc, also, be sure to check out Made by Rae for her challenge within a challenge! Her mini-washi dress is so stinkin' cute! {I have the washi dress pattern in my size, just have to sew it up, and now I might have to make one for the little also.}

Blue Prarie Dress {kcwc fall 2012 preview}

IMAG0009 by extracrunchymama

 It's MONDAY! which means the first day of the kcwc over at Elsie Marley. But.... I'm having some technical difficulties on the picture uploading front, please standby :) In the meantime, here is a dress that I sewed up on Saturday. I used a modified version of this pattern, it's supposed to be for a nightgown, but works well for the structure of a dress. The top yoke and sleeves are Anna Maria Horner's  dancefloor (in teal) that I scored at the Lottie Da destash sale. I only paid $3 for a scrap piece that was about a 3/4 yard. The body fabric, I picked up at Joann's from the Denyse Schmidt daisy mae collection. It was on clearance for $4.80/yard. So, including elastic and matching thread, this dress was less than $10 to create! {Not including the pattern, I think it was around $4}. I made a 2t size yoke and sleeves with a 3T size body. I have a tall skinny toddler, and simplicity patterns tend to run rather large (especially if it's supposed to be a roomy nightgown.) I also didn't prewash the fabric, which is mostly because I'm lazy, but also so that it would shrink up from the actual 2T size.

Hopefully I will be posting later today with my real first kcwc garment.

Rockin' the suburbs just like Michael Jackson did

Good Morning!
This is my life right now, the fun stuff, not the boring everyday stuff.
 p.s. breakfast is exciting, especially when it's not cold pizza.

{Breakfast} Oatmeal, raisins, chia seeds, cinnamon and honey, with a side of farm fresh raw milk

{Meet my close friends, my serger and sewing machine!
 Don't mind the mess behind the magic, I'm creative not tidy}
